There is an ongoing debate around techniques used to determine the age of a child on a digital platform. While some brands use age assurance to simply restrict child users from their platform or service, others custom-design experiences that invite children into an age-appropriate digital world. Either way, when attempting to discern someone’s age online, brands should be aware of the potential risks and harms and understand what data is necessary to getting age assurance right.
