Shunto J. Kobayashi is an economist and Assistant Professor of Marketing at Boston University’s Questrom School of Business, with a faculty affiliation in the Economics Department. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Caltech in 2024. His research lies at the intersection of empirical industrial organization and quantitative marketing, with a focus on economic and privacy issues in online advertising. He uses econometric methods to study competition in digital advertising markets, the economic impact of privacy regulations, and the effectiveness of privacy-enhancing technologies. His recent work examines how privacy initiatives, such as third-party cookie deprecation and Google’s Privacy Sandbox, influence advertising markets and business outcomes, as well as the dynamic behavior of bidding algorithms in ad auctions and its implications for market design.
