Lydia Parnes, now retired, was a partner in the Washington, DC office of Wilson Sonsini. She joined the firm in 2009 after a 28-year career at the Federal Trade Commission. At Wilson, she built the firms privacy practice and led the the privacy and consumer regulatory group. Lydia regularly represented clients in high stakes FTC investigations and advised on how to navigate global privacy and data security requirements while pursuing their business goals. Lydia served as the director of the FTC's Bureau of Consumer Protection from 2004 to 2009 and oversaw the enforcement of a wide rage of laws designed to prevent fraud and deception in the commercial marketplace, safeguard consumer privacy, and provide consumers with important information about the goods and services they purchase. Lydia is active in the leadership of the ABA's Antitrust Section. She is currently on the editorial board of the Antitrust Source and is chair of a Consumer Protection Task Force charged with increasing consumer protection practitioners in the Section.
