About the Workshop
How can students assess the role of industry standards, voluntary commitments, and other forms of industry self-regulation in addressing business and public policy challenges?
Join the Center for Industry Self-Regulation (CISR) for an interactive workshop on bringing these questions into the classroom.
Designed for faculty in law, business, public policy, and related fields, the workshop will introduce curriculum materials and case studies that examine how industry self-regulation operates in practice and how it interacts with government oversight.
Learn from Faculty Using the Materials
Hear from professors teaching these topics about what engages students and how the curriculum materials work in their classrooms, including how individual cases and modules complement existing courses and opportunities for deeper study.
Participants will also have time to exchange ideas with fellow faculty and curriculum developers about different approaches to teaching standards, soft law, and industry self-regulation.
Explore What Could Work in Your Classroom
The curriculum materials are flexible. Faculty can explore ways to:
- Add a case study to an existing course
- Incorporate a module on industry self-regulation or soft law
- Use materials for a guest lecture or classroom discussion
- Develop a dedicated course or deeper area of study
- No previous teaching or scholarship in industry self-regulation is required. Participation does not entail a commitment to adopt the curriculum.
Continue the Conversation at the Soft Law Summit
Workshop participants are encouraged, but not required, to attend the 2026 Soft Law Summit on November 17. The Summit will bring together colleagues from academia, industry, and other fields to examine how standards, independent accountability frameworks, and collaborative approaches are addressing emerging challenges.
